The Browns have one more week to make a decision on a new head coach, according to Joe Thomas.
The team’s newest head coach has been under contract for next season through 2021, but the team is set to make another decision on the man who took over for Mike Pettine, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The Browns have not been able to make much progress on the front office, with several players on the roster having been cut.
The franchise tag on veteran linebacker Ray Lewis has expired.
Thomas, who has spent the last three seasons as the Browns’ defensive coordinator, has been the Browns head coach since the end of the 2016 season.
Thomas is under contract through 2019, so if the team were to make an offer to him he would likely accept the deal, sources said.
However, Thomas has said repeatedly that he would like to stay in Cleveland.
Thomas will not be able to coach the team this season and will not have a chance to manage the Browns after that.
The team is expected to have a coach in place by Week 4 of the regular season.
